LEONIE LANE

down river: Grafton Regional Gallery, Grafton NSW: September – October 2007

In the tradition of Australian image making, the perception of identity is amplified in the depiction of the figure in the landscape, offering a real and idealized account of our country. Here the compositional strategy is reversed. The landscape is inscribed into and grows out of the figure. The silhouettes contain the narratives as experienced and retold. They frame early childhood experiences of river connections, generational influence, custodianship, environmental challenges and serendipitous moments.
